Man stabs 15 kindergarten children in Beijing

A temporary worker at a kindergarten in Beijing, went on a rampage on Wednesday morning, stabbing 15 children and three teachers.

One child died later due to serious injury and blood loss. Another two, one child and one teacher, sustained serious neck wounds and were in critical condition.

Police detained Xu Heping, 51, after the stabbings. His motives were unclear, and the case is under further investigation.

At about 9:36am Wednesday moring, police received the emergency report, and three patrol police vehicles and eight policemen rushed to the kindergarten affiliated to the No 1 Hospital under Peking University in downtown Beijing, and overpowered the man wielding a kitchen knife.

The injured were rushed to hospital immediately. One child died and two of the injured are still in critical condition. The injuries of the others are not life-threatening.

City officials also rushed to the scene and hospital to see the injured and assist the rescue and investigation efforts.
