Iraq to conduct general censusThe Iraqi Ministry of Planning andDeveloping Cooperation has allocated 60 million US dollars toachieve the general census in the country, which would be conductedwithin two months, local newspaper Al Sharq Al Awsat reportedTuesday. A source in the ministry was quoted as saying that for thepurpose, a higher committee would be formed which represents anumber of ministries, the municipality of Baghdad and theconsultative council. It will also include a member representing the region ofKurdistan, with an operation room headed by the Central Departmentof Census, the source added. The source said that the committee of preparing and updating themaps relating to the administrative units have finished the workassigned to it. An experimental census would be carried out in a number ofregions to point out the problems and obstacles that could face thegeneral census to be able to treat them.
