Press freedom not undermined in HK: UK envoy

British Consul-General in Hong Kong Stephen Bradley said here Tuesday he believes Hong Kong still enjoys freedom of speech, Hong Kong media reported Wednesday.

He said the situation had not changed since local radio host Albert Cheng Kinghon's allegations that he was told by the radio station he worked with not to run in the Legislative Council (LegCo) elections, which sparkled criticism that press freedom is affected in Hong Kong.

Bradley told a Foreign Correspondents' Club luncheon that "We would be concerned if there are indications that the freedom of the press is being undermined. But I didn't really see that."

According to him, the Cheng affair was a dispute involving employee and employer, and the British government was confident that the forthcoming LegCo elections would be run in a transparent and organized manner.
