As learned from State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC) until the end of May Chinas electricity installed capacity has exceeded 400 million kilowatt to 400.6 million kilowatt.
As China is facing the strained electricity supply and demand situation its electricity construction entered the fastest development period last year and China became the only country in the world, which puts 20 million kilowatt large and medium generating sets into production each year.
It is estimated that in the next 15 years China still needs to add generating sets of at least 500 million kilowatts in order to meet the need of building a relatively affluent society in a comprehensive way. It means that in the next decade or so Chinas power supply construction will continue to grow at a high speed.
According to statistics Chinas installed capacity exceeded 300 million kilowatt in April 2000. In the following four years China put at least 15 million kilowatt generating sets into production each year. Since the mid 2002 Chinas electricity consumption kept on increasing at an enormous speed with average electricity consumption growing at 15-plus percent for more than 20 months in a row.
According to the electricity departments Chinas peak electricity gap would be about 30 million kilowatt. By the end of this year generating sets to be put into production would also be around 30 million kilowatt. It is hopeful that by then the situation of serious electricity shortage would be alleviated.
