More fund for Chinese gold medallists in Athens

China will raise the awards for Chinese medallists in Athens Olympic Games, according to the Ministry of Finance and State General Sports Administration.

This is learned from He Huixian, vice chairman of the Chinese Olympic delegation for Athens Games on August 5.

200, 000 yuan will be awarded to each gold medallist, 120 ,000 yuan for each silver and 80, 000 for bronze. The bonus for those entering the final eight increases by about 50 percent in each step forward: 5, 000 for the eighth place, 6, 000 the seventh, 9, 000 the sixth, 11, 000 yuan the fifth and 15, 000 yuan for the fourth place.

At the Sydney Olympics, gold medal winners got a prize of 150,000 yuan, silver medal winners 80,000 yuan and the copper medal winners 50,000 yuan.
