With the aim to establish an international GLP standard safety evaluation center focusing on primate laboratory animal or large animal, a signing ceremony of the project was held by Wu Jieping Medicine Foundation and Hongkong Hongwei Pharmaceutical Corporation. The preparation work for the center starts.

GLP means "good laboratory practice". It is special management regulations formulated, specially aiming at the medical safety. Since the beginning of 1980s, GLP has become the norm for the international new pharmaceutical evaluation laboratories. It is a technological platform for the medical safety research. The Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Health and the State Food and Drug Administration have carried out a great many explorations on the establishment of GLP center in accordance with international standards. It was also listed in the "1035" project early in the "ninth five-year plan (1996-2000)" by the former State Science and Technology Commission.

Currently, no single GLP laboratory in the country reaches the international standards completely. Under this circumstance, no international "pass'' is available when China exports its new medicine. Therefore, it is far from mutual recognition among GLP organizations from China and the other countries. After China's entry into WTO, it is a dispensable foundation for the medicine industry to have a high-level evaluation organization meeting the international standards.

Hongkong Hongwei Pharmaceutical Corporation is based on the fields of life sciences and medical health care. In the past few years, it has devoted to the demonstration and preparation work for the establishment of GLP center conforming to the international standards in the country. And it has contacted and negotiated with many medical giants on safety evaluation in the world one after another such as the Covance of the USA, HuntingdonlifeScience of Europe and Bozo Group of Japan, and has gained their support and approval for participating in this project.

Through the contacts, Wu Jieping Foundation and Hongkong Hongwei Pharmaceutical Corporation have reached a common understanding to develop this project cooperatively. At present, both parties are in a good cooperation to fully tap each other's advantages both from inside and outside the country for the preparation work so as to start the project as soon as possible.
