Although Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon had said on Aug. 5, 2004 that Israel had no plan to expand Ma'aleh Adumim, construction is still under way in the Jewish settlement. Under the roadmap peace plan, Israel is obliged to freeze all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories, where around 245,000 Israelis live.
