The Olympic flame will stay in the ancient Acropolis on the eve of the opening ceremony, the Athens Olympic Games organizers said Saturday.
"In the evening, Greek Olympic medallist Niki Bakoyianni will bring the flame to the temple at the Acropolis," said spokesman George Bolos.
Celebrations include a concert at the 1,800-year-old Herod Atticus open air theater at the foot of the Acropolis.
The flame has traveled around the world, making stops at 35 cities in 27 countries and regions before making its way back to Greece.
The relay will end with the lighting of the cauldron in the main Olympic stadium on Friday.
While it remains a tightly guarded secret who will ignite the cauldron at the opening ceremony, local media has reported that Costas Kenteris, winner of the 200 meter at the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000, or Greek basketball legend Nikos Gallis could be chosen as the final torchbearer at the August 13 showpiece.
