    Kissinger: Deng Xiaoping one of greatest men of 20th century

    Henry Kissinger, former US Secretary of State, shows a photo of himself and Deng Xiaoping, at his office in Manhattan, New York, July 14. Dr. Kissinger said that Deng Xiaoping is one of the greatest men of the 20th century and he made significant contribution to China's development.

    Kenya, a new tour destination for Chinese tourists

The China National Tourism Administration and the Kenya Tourist Board signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the implementation plan for organized group travel by Chinese citizens to Kenya on March 16, 2004. Direct flight from Beijing to Nairobi will open in October 2004. It is estimated by the Kenya Tourist Board that Kenya will receive 30,000 to 50,000 Chinese visitors in 2004. Chinese visitors to Kenya in 2003 totaled only 2,700.

    Xiali a milestone in China's auto output

    Guests attending a presentation of Xiali auto in Tianjin municipality on August 8. The same day sees the 1, 000,000th Xiali car off the production line in Tianjin, a milestone in output for a single Chinese brand. It took Xiali 12 years for Xiali, put into production in 1986, to make its first 500, 000 units of cars and 6 years to have another 500,000.

    Arab League to hold emergency meeting over Darfur issue

    Folk Culture Festival of Yi Nationality

    Folk performers of Yi nationality perform a traditional Yi dance in Liupanshui, southwest China's Guizhou province, August 8, 2004. The two-day Folk Culture Festival of Yi Nationality opened on August 8 in Liupanshui, one of the main regions where Yi people live. Apart from performance, during the festival local Yi people will also celebrate their traditional Torch Festival.

    Chinese Olympic delegation arrives in Athens

    Chinese Olympic chief Yuan Weimin (R) arrived in Athens on Aug. 8, 2004. A 274-member Chinese team arrived here for the Athens Olympic Games Sunday afternoon. Among the team was the Chinese Olympic chief Yuan Weimin and athletes in the sports of shooting, archery, table tennis, diving, swimming, weightlifting, fencing, softball, women's handball, field hockey, boxing, judo, wrestling, cycling, tennis and beach volleyball.
