Wiranto's objection to presidential election result overturned
font size

The Indonesian Constitutional Court on Monday ruled against a case of disputed presidential election result lodged by Wiranto, who claims that he had lost over 5 million votes in 26 provinces in the July 5 election.

Presiding Judge Jimly Asshiddiqie said Wiranto could not present convincing evidence for his claims.

"Because the plaintiff cannot convincingly prove his claim, we consider the case baseless and accordingly reject the claim," he said.

Wiranto is already eliminated from the runoff next September that will allow only two front-runners from the July 5 election.

Had his claim been accepted by the court, he would have beaten incumbent President Megawati Soekarnoputri who ranked second behind foremost Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in the first round of election.
