Iraq's interim government on Monday decided to impose a curfew on a volatile Baghdad suburb, the Sadr City, as the fierce clashes between US forces and radical Iraqi Shiite militiamen have entered its 5th day, an Interior Ministry source said.
The curfew will be in force every day from 4:00 pm (1200 GMT) to 8:00 am (0400 GMT) "until further notice due to the troubles in the area," said the source.
The ministry's spokesman Sabah Kahdim confirmed that "the decision was taken after considering the security situation in the Sadr City, which has been witnessing violence in the last few days."
