Police on Monday arrested six menand one woman suspected to have made fraudulent claims to an insurance company.
Following intensive investigation into a complaint made by an insurance company last month, officers from the Yau Ma Tei Division mounted an operation Monday resulting in the arrest of the above seven persons.
Initial inquiries revealed that the informant middleman company received an inquiry from its agent company which received requests from 14 customers to terminate their policies and to refund 17 insurance policies within three days.
All the insurance policies were handled by a newly recruited salesman of the middleman company. The middleman company had tried to contact the salesman but in vain and therefore reported the case to Police.
Further investigation showed that the information contained in the insurance application forms were false, such as false working address, home address and stated salary.
The salesman was believed to have conspired with the 14 customers to take out the policies and requested full refund within the two weeks' "calm down period".
The claims of refund amounted to a total of 510,000 HK dollars (65,384 US dollars). and the investigations are still on-going.
