Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on Tuesday held talks with visiting Myanmar Prime Minister Khin Nyunt, focusing on strengthening the cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, both sides expressed their satisfaction with the development of the friendly cooperative relations betweenthe two members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Khin Nyunt said that his government would continue its efforts to implement the agreements signed by the two countries and is ready to expand the bilateral relations to a new depth and new stage.

Khin Nyunt also invited Hun Sen to attend the World Buddhist Conference to be held in Yangon, Myanmar, in December this year and to pay an official visit to his country. Hun Sen accepted his invitation.

Khin Nyunt arrived here on Tuesday morning to pay a six-hour whirlwind visit to Cambodia at the invitation of his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen.

During his stay, Khin Nyunt also paid a courtesy call on Chea Sim, president of the Senate and acting head of state.

Khin Nyunt was expected to visit Cambodia in late June as part of a regional tour, but postponed the trip. He is the first foreign government leader to visit Cambodia since the Southeast Asian country formed a new government last month.

Meanwhile, the two leaders discussed the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) scheduled to be held in October in Hanoi, Vietnam, and theirmemberships of the organization.

ASEM, established in 1994, is an informal dialogue between European Union member states and 10 Asian countries: Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam,China, Japan and South Korea.

Though European Union member nations indicated that it has no objection to the inclusion of Cambodia and Laos into ASEM, Hun Senreaffirmed its stance that Cambodia has decided to join the ASEM together with its ASEAN members of Myanmar and Laos. The aim, Hun Sen said, is to further strengthen the cooperation within ASEAN countries.

Khin Nyunt, who had visited Vietnam and Laos before arriving inCambodia, left here Tuesday afternoon.
