Beijing sees sharp foreign trade rise in Jan-July period

Beijing reported 51.13 billion US dollars of foreign trade in the January-July period this year, up 32.3 percent from the same period last year, according to the customs figures.

The city's imports in the period amounted to 40.66 billion dollars, up 38.2 percent year on year, while the exports totaled 10.468 billion dollars, a year-on-year rise of 13.6 percent.

The export of new and high-tech products has maintained a sound growth momentum in the period. The customs figures show that the export shot up by 45.7 percent over the same period last year to reach nearly 2.5 billion US dollars.

The customs figures indicated that foreign funded enterprises in Beijing played a major role in foreign trade. In the January-July period, foreign funded enterprises saw their combined imports

amount to 5.9 billion US dollars and exports 3.68 billion dollars, respectively accounting for 62.4 percent and 68.8 percent of the Beijing's total.

Beijing's private enterprises witnessed a sharp rise in their foreign trade volume, reaching 716 million US dollars, or 1.8 times the amount in the same period last year, show the customs figures.
