Enkhbayar elected as Mongolia's parliamentary chairman

Chairman of the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party (MPRP) Nambaryn Enkhbayar was elected as the chairman of Mongolia's State Great Hural by a unanimous vote on Friday.

Enkhbayar, born in 1958, graduated from the Literature Institute in Moscow and also studied at Leeds University in northern England.

He served as minister of culture from 1992 to 1996. On July 26,2000, the State Great Hural unanimously voted to select him as prime minister.

On June 18, 1997, Enkhbayar was elected as MPRP chairman and had retained the post until today.

The parliament swore in 74 senators on July 26, and all partiesparticipating the election agreed Thursday that Enkhbayar becomes the chairman of parliament.
