The Iraqi team then dominated the midfield and surged ahead at the 29th minute as Mohammed Hawar Mulla slammed home from close range. Portugal refused to give up and launched desperate attacks after conceding the second goal. Their efforts paid off as Bosingwa connected a corner and beat Iraqi goalkeeper Sabri Nour with a thunderous right-footer just out of the area. After the interval, the Iraqi team kept their tempo and maintained a constant pressure upon the Portuguese defense. Portugal striker Morte Boa was sent off at the 51st minute for a brutal foul, and the Iraqi team benefited from the advantage almost immediately.
