China discovers unqualified goods valued US$7.3 bln 1st half of 2004

China has discovered unqualified imported and exported goods valued 7.304 billion US dollars in the first half of 2004, sources with the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) said.

During the same period, the various branches of AQSIQ imported and exported goods valued at 263 billion US dollars, up 36.48 percent year-on-year.

Among the unqualified goods, there are 1.91 billion US dollars worth of industrial products, 4.748 billion dollars worth of animal and plant products, and 259 million dollars worth of food, packages and cosmetics, said the AQSIQ.

The AQSIQ said that it has taken effective measures in line with law to deal with those unqualified goods, including returning,destroying, etc.

The official statistics show that China's import and export volume grew 39.1 percent to 523 billion US dollars in the first half of 2004.
