Turkey's Nurcan Taylan wins women's 48kg Olympic gold

Nurcan Taylan of Turkey lifted two world records to win the women's 48kg category at the 28th Olympic Games Saturday evening.

The Turk strongwoman, who snatched 97.5kgs to set up her advantage in the lifts, continued her overwhelming performance in the jerk, lifting 112.5kg for a winning total of 210kgs, a new world record.

Her lift in the snatch also smashed the previous world record by 1.5kgs.

China's Li Zhuo, hot favourite for the title, lifted 205kgs in the total, with 92.5 from snatch and 112.5 from jerk.

Aree Wiratthaworn of Thailand finished third at 205kgs.
