Chen Yanqing lifted 237.5 kilograms on August 16 afternoon in the women's 58kg category to give China its first gold medal in weightlifting tournament at the Athens Olympic Games.

Chen, who snatched 107.5kg, cleared the weight of 130kg in the jerk for the title.

Ri Song Hui of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea finished second at 232.5kg, with 102.5 from snatch and 130 from jerk.

Wandee Kameaim of Thailand had the bronze at 230.
