Egypt's export to China has shown a strong momentum, a Chinese official said Tuesday in Cairo.

Addressing a Sino-Egyptian seminar on investment, Cui Mingmo, minister counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Cairo, said that bilateral trade hit 699 million US dollars in the first six months of this year, an increase of 43.4 percent over the same period of last year.

Among the total figure, Egypt's export to China registered 111 million dollars, an increase of 77.6 percent over the same period of last year, he said, adding that Chinese investment in Egypt hits 150 million dollars.

Chinese President Hu Jintao paid a visit to Egypt in January, during which Hu and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak reached consensus on expanding Chinese-Egyptian economic and trade ties.

"The current visit to Egypt by a trade delegation from the Chinese city of Tianjin was part of efforts to strengthen bilateral trade links," Cui said.

He said that the delegation would visit the Suez economic zone to seek more opportunities.

For his part, Chai Zhongda, vice secretary-general of Tianjin Municipal Government, told the gathering that trade volume between Tianjin and Egypt reached 28 million dollars last year, and the city had established 14 enterprises in Egypt.

He said Tianjin would like to work together with the Egyptian side to further explore No. 3 bloc in the Suez economic zone and render it a success.

The Chinese delegation arrived here on Aug. 15 for a four-day visit to Egypt.
