Hong Kong audience enjoyed an artistic feast Tuesday night, thanks to the dances and costume show brought by the
Shanghai Song and Dance Ensemble.
Dances of the Dynasties, a musical and cultural extravaganza, was staged at Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Lyric Theater, winning long time applause of the audience.
"It is a feast of eyes. The beauty of dance and magnificence of costume are perfectly combined," said a Hong Kong audience.
The spectacular performance, renowned for its magnificent stage designs, music, choreography and costumes, showcases the culture, traditions, beliefs and way of life of the Chinese spanning 5000 years, highlighting the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties.
More than 80 performers wore over 1,000 costumes in the performance featuring different dynasties and nationalities of China.

The Dances of the Dynasties was created in 1987, and performed in Hong Kong in April, 1992 for the first time. However, the performance has been re-created in dances, music and costumes to enhance its artistic quality, said Huang Doudou, art director of the Shanghai Song and Dance Ensemble.
After enjoying the show, a Hong Kong audience from the artistic circle said that he watched the Dances of Dynasties 17 years ago. Compared with the former one, the new performance highlights the harmonious combination of dances and music, and the costumes are more beautiful in colors and style.
The show consists of seven parts, including reverberations of ancient times, the romantic charm of the imperial palace, life of ordinary people, romantic lives of nomads, enjoying prosperity with music and dance, a country of etiquette and harmonic song of the new century.
Internationally acclaimed for its unique artistry and style, the Shanghai Song and Dance Ensemble has toured all over China and many countries including the United States, France and Malaysia.
The show will last till Thursday.
