Taiwan buys off US Congressmen with cash

According to "Haixia Dushi Bao", media disclosed in July the inside story of American Chinese Dong Wei as a Taiwan spy, which has given rise to the strong resonance from the US society.

Since 1987, Dong has collected a large amount of information including the diplomatic secrets of the mainland for "military intelligence bureau" and "national safety bureau" in Taiwan. The mainland's Taiwan work and US policy are the work emphasis for Dong. In each conference on Taiwan convened by the mainland, Dong used well-connected network to excavate the internal remarks made by related leaders.

Dong said that in 1999, Wang Xitian, former chief of the third department under the "military intelligence bureau" was transferred to "national safety bureau" in Taiwan serving as a "delegate" in US. Being an official with Taiwan's "North American affairs coordination committee" Wang made public activities and lobbied US senate and congress as a representative of Taiwan intelligence institution. Dong confessed that Taiwan spends tens of millions of US dollars each year on buying off US Congressmen with cash secretly. If there are any celebrations, they (spies) will send gifts and cash to VIPs in various areas in US. Since they're too many Congressmen (nearly 600), advising firms and funds associations are hired to do the work. Dong felt clearly that the advising firms hired by Taiwan know the VIPs very well and send the goods satisfied to the utmost degree.

According to Dong's confession, the most gifts given to US VIPs are the paintings by a certain famous painter, who came to US from the mainland. Each painting may cost about 100,000 to 200,000 US dollars. Taiwan buys these paintings as gifts for the bribery of the Congressmen. At present, how to handle Dong has entered into judiciary proceedings.
