Arab states are calling for international intervention Wednesday into Israel's UN-condemned separation wall at Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) meetings held in the South African port city of Durban.
In a working paper proposed by the Egyptian delegation obtained by Xinhua, the Arab state called upon NAM member states to "ensurethe cessation of the construction nor to recognize any situation created by or as a consequence of the construction."
Egypt also calls for the United Nations to consider "further action" to end the separation wall, a 600-km barrier which in somesections cuts deep into the West Bank, which Israel says to keep Palestinian militants at bay.
NAM is having a Ministerial Meeting of its Committee on Palestine Wednesday afternoon at the sidelines of the on-going NAMmeetings in Durban, participated by foreign ministers and heads ofdelegations in the ten-member committee and NAM members in the UN Security Council.
The outcome of the meeting, which is expected to be a condemnation of the separation wall, is to be submitted to the NAMministerial meeting Thursday for adoption.
Arab states have made repeated calls to put an end to the Israeli project, which was condemned by the United Nations and ruled by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) as "contrary to international law."
Under the request of NAM and Arab nations, the UN General Assembly held an emergency special session on July 16 to examine the world court's ruling and finally adopted a resolution to demand that Israel comply with the ICJ advisory opinion. The resolution, however, is non-binding.
