Quake jolts Indonesian island

An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale rocked the Sumbawa island in the Indonesian provinceof West Nusa Tenggara at 14:03 (04:03 GMT) Thursday.

The epicenter of the quake was 79 km south of the island beneath the Indonesian ocean.

The tremor was also felt on the world's famous resort island ofBali.

The Meteorology and Geophysics Agency in Bali reported in a statement that a minor quake also affected Ngajuk regency in East Java province some 30 minutes after the quake in Sumbawa.

The agency said there was no immediate report on casualty and infrastructure damage.

Meanwhile, Detikcom online news service reported that a series of tremors measuring between 4 and 4.5 on the Richter scale were felt in the southern Java province of Yogyakarta Thursday.
