The Attorney General presented Prime Minister Ariel Sharon with a report probing the effects of an ICJ decision on June 5 that declared the West Bank security fence a violation of international law.
"It is hard to exaggerate the negative ramifications of the International Court of Justice ruling will have on Israel on many levels, even on matters that lie beyond the separation fence,"Mazuz wrote in his statement.
"The decision creates a political reality for Israel on the international level, that may be used to expedite actions against Israel in international forums, to the point that they may result in sanctions," said the statement.
Mazuz recommended that Israel's spokes persons emphasize the fact that Israel acts according to the ICJ ruling, although the state believes it was based in partial evidence.
The government should make a supreme effort to make plans for the route of the separation fence comply with the ones specified in the ruling by the country's High Court of Justice, which would minimize tension building on the international legal front, headded.
The Attorney General also suggested the new route defined by the High Court of Justice be backed by a government decision which would send out the message that Israel is implementing international law regarding the separation fence in accordance with local courts.
