font size

The Chinese Embassy to Kenya held a sendoff function Thursday in Nairobi for Kenyan students who are going to China to study on Chinese Government Scholarships.

The nine Kenyan students are going to study in eight different Chinese universities and pursue bachelor's, master's and doctor's degrees respectively in the fields of medicine, textile engineering, crop pathology, hydrology and water resources, pharmacology and stomatology etc.

Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Guo Chongli said at the function that "China-Kenya educational exchanges and cooperation, as an essential part of our friendship, has been forging ahead and cooperation between Chinese and Kenyan universities has gained momentum."

Meanwhile, Kenyan Assistant Minister for Education, Science and Technology Kilemi Mwiria said that Kenya has much to learn from China, and he hopes the Kenyan students could bring back what they have learned in China.

Since 1982, the Chinese government has been providing about 10 full scholarships to Kenyan students every year, mostly for post-graduate and doctorate studies.

So far, a total of over 190 Kenyan students have returned home and they are playing an important role in their country's development.
