Singapore's Senior Minister and former Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong has been officially appointed as chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) with effect from Friday.
According to a statement by the MAS on Friday, Goh, whose term of office will last for two years, is MAS' fifth chairman since the establishment of MAS in 1971.
Goh replaces Lee Hsien Loong, the new prime minister who had served as MAS chairman since January 1998.
