Besides a gold snatched in Saturday's women's pair, Romania added luster to its winning history by lifting another two golds in women's eight and women's lightweight doubles Sunday.
As gold medalists in 2003 Lucerne World Cup, Romanian women's eight dominated the final,finishing in 6:17.70 to take the title.
The United States, winners in 2004 Munich and Lucerne World Cups, finished in 6:19.56 and took the silver. The bronze medal went to the Dutch team, second place finishers in 2004 Lucerne World Cup.
39-year-old Elisabeta Lipa of Romania won her eighth Olympic medal (five of them are golds). Excited over their victory, Lipa implied that she would retire, "It was my last race. We worked for four years to do this. We are very satisfied. I dedicate the medal to Romania."
Constanta Burcica, and Angela Alupei, defending champions, took the gold for Romania in women's lightweight doubles. The silver went to Daniela Reimer and Claudia Blasberg of Germany. And Dutch Kirsten van Der Kolk and Marit van Eupen took away the bronze.
Alupei said, "I feel great. It wasn't a very difficult race. I dedicate this medal to my family and I am very happy because I have won every time I have met these competitors."
In Saturday's women's pair, Romanian duo Georgeta Damian and Viorica Susanu bagged the gold.
