The American team nets men's eight rowing gold

World championships runners-up the United States finished in 5:42.58 for the gold medal of men's eights rowing event at the Athens Olympic Games on Sunday.

The Netherlands, third placers in 2004 Munich World Cup, took the silver in 5:43.75.

The bronze medal went to Australia which clocked 5:45.38 over the distance of 2,000 meters.
