The women soccer semifinal between the United States and Germany at the Pankritio Stadium will be a dialogue between super stars in the FIFA top- ranked teams.
The match slated for Monday, the first between them since the 2003 World Cup semifinal where Germany won 3-0 in Portland, Oregon, will catch the world's attention as both sides boast of world- class stars, such as German Birgit Prinz, and American Mia Hamm and Abby Wambach.
Both Germany and the United States finished atop their respective groups as hot favorites for the Athens Olympic title.
Prinz, who scored the most with five goals in the group matches, including four against China, has been justifying her prowess as one of the best women strikers in the world.
The 1.79-meter striker is putting her ambition as she "tries to become better all the time".
While the world champion has routed China 8-0, beat Mexico 2-0 in group matches and made the last four with a 2-1 win over Nigeria, the Americans also proved their legitimacy as they defeated host Greece (3-0) and Brazil (2-0) and tied Australia (1- 1) in the group phase before nipping Japan 2-1 in the quarterfinal.
And the Americans might even be more determined in the semifinal as they are hoping for a golden gift for Mia Hamm who wishes to retire after the Games.
