Lithuania wraps up with 100-85 win over Australia

Title contender Lithuania wrapped up its preliminary round matches with a 5-0 record by defeating Australia 100-85 on August 23 in the men's basketball competition.

Lithuania, group B winner with 10 points, will face the fourth- placed finisher of group A in the quarter-finals.

Center Robertas Javtokas scored game-high 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Lithuania,with forward Ksistof Lavrinovic scoring 18 points.

After a close 20-19 first quarter, Javtokas, a 2.10-meter center who is playing for Lietuvos Rytas of Lithuania, led a 23-0 run at 48-23 when he scored nine points in the second quarter to put the game out of reach.

The European champions led as much as 27 points when Sarunas Jasikevicius's 3-pointer made it 59-32 one and a half minutes into the second half.

Australia closed the gap behind seven points from forward Andrew Bogut to make it 73-66 towards the end of third quarter.

It was Javtokas again who stepped up to extend the lead at 96- 83 with a layup with two minutes left in the game to ensure the victory.
