font size

Pakistani Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain Wednesday announced his resignation to pave the way for Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz, the prime minister-designate.

Announcing his resignation in the National Assembly, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said he has made his best efforts to serve the country with devotion and dedication during his tenure.

"I have laid new traditions of tolerance and accommodation in the politics," he said.

He thanked the members of the House who reposed full confidence in him and gave him respect and valuable cooperation during his short tenure.

"Shaukat Aziz will be elected as new leader of the House within few days and I hope he will make concerted efforts to make the country a real prosperous and progressive state," Chaudhry Shujatt said.

Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain was elected the new prime minister of Pakistan on June 28, after the resignation of former Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali.
