HK export volume up by 16.5 pct in first 6 months

Hong Kong's volume of total exports of goods in the first half of this year grew by 16.5 percent over last year's same period and the imports of goods also increased by 17.8 percent in volume.

According to a press release from the Census and Statistics Department Tuesday, comparing the first half of 2004 with the same period in 2003, the volume of Hong Kong's re-exports of goods rose by 17.5 percent, and that of domestic exports by 3 percent.

The department said, Hong Kong's volume of total exports of goods in June increased by 17.1 percent and the volume of imports of goods increased by 18.4 percent.

In June 2004, the volume of Hong Kong's re-exports of goods increased by 17.8 percent over June 2003, and that of domestic exports by 8.4 percent.

Comparing June 2004 with June 2003, the prices of total exports of goods increased by 1.1 percent. Concurrently, the prices of imports of goods increased by 2.9 percent.
