Majoros wins men's 55kg Greco-Roman wrestling

Hungary's Istvan Majoros won the gold medal of the men's 55kg Greco-Roman wrestling event by defeating Russian Gueidar Mamedaliev 3-1 on August 25.

Mamedaliev, gold medal winners in 2002 world championships, took an early lead at 1-0 in the first round.

The unknown Hungarian caught up and usurp the lead by turned around the Russian twice on the cushion in the second round to finish the six-minute regular bout by 2-1.

In the overtime, Majoros, 30, made a fast step to score the winning point for his first Olympic gold medal.

"I'm so happy to win the gold medal. My mother died this year. I think she will be happy with me tonight," Majoros said.

Greece's Artiom Kiouregkian beat Oleksiy Vakulenko of Ukraine 6- 1 to win the bronze medal of this category.
