Wrestler Farid Mansurov from Azerbaijan, the sliver medalist of men's Greco-Roman 66kg at 2002 worlds in Russia, took the gold medal of the event at the Athens Olympics in Athens on August 25.

This was the first gold medal for Azerbaijan at the Athens Olymics.

Mansurov, 22, who also finished eighth at the 2003 worlds in France, edged Seref Eroglu from Turkey, the twice European champion in 2002 and 2003, 4-3 in the six-minute final.

In the three-minute first half, Mansurov led Eroglu 4-0 including a direct three-pointer earned by throwing Eroglu to the mat.

Eroglu fought hard in the second half and also got a three- pointer. But he failed to tie the score in the last minute and had to accept the silver medal.

Mkkhitar Manukyan from Kazakhstan, 31, who finished fifth at 2003 Asian championships in India, thrashed Jimmy Samuelsson from Sweden, 28, the gold medalist at the 2002 world championships in Russia, 8-1 to take the bronze.
