China's National People's Congress attaches importance to the relations with the parliament of the Cape Verde, and will further cooperation to promote bilateral relations, Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo said in Beijing Thursday.

"The parliamentary exchanges have become a bridge between China and Cape Verde on furthering bilateral relations," said Wu, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, when he met with Jose Maria Pereira Neves, prime minister of Cape Verde.

Wu said that China and Cape Verde have enjoyed traditional friendship, and the two countries have supported each other politically and expanded cooperation in economy, culture and public health.

China thanked Cape Verde for its support of China's reunification cause, Wu said, adding that China would like to promote the relations with Cape Verde.

Neves said that friendly relations between Cape Verde and China will help develop the economy and society of the island country.

Cape Verde will continue to adhere to one-China policy, and enhance the cooperation with China in agricultural, tourism and other fields.
