Australia to meet U.S. in women's final

Australia led all the way to a 88- 75 victory over Brazil on August 27 to set up a women's basketball final against three-time defending champions, the United States.

Led by Seattle Storm's forward Lauren Jackson and Penny Taylor from the Phoenix Mercury, Australia kept its unbeaten run to 6-0.

The U.S., the other team in the tournament with a perfect record, beat Russia 66-62 in an earlier semi-final match.

Australia opened the fourth quarter with a 8-3 run to make it 71-59.

Janeth Arcain scored two free-throws to cut it to 80-71, but the 1.95-meter Jackson nailed down her third 3-pointer in this quarter to put the game beyond doubt.

Alicia Poto beat the buzzer for the last basket of the game, another 3-pointer, for Australia to set off an on-court celebration.

Jackson had 26 points and 13 rebounds while Taylor having 12 points and six rebounds.

Center Alessandra Oliveira, 2.00 meters high, pulled down 20 points and eight rebounds for Brazil, with Iziane Marques, also Mercury's forward, leading by 25 points.
