Britain's Holmes wins women's 1,500m, completes gold double

Britain's Kelly Holmes claimed the women's 1,500m champion at the Olympic Games Saturday to added to her 800 title.

Holmes clocked three minutes 57.90 seconds for the win. Russia's Tatyana Tomashova took the silver in 3:58.12 and Romania's MariaCioncan won the bronze in 3:58.39.

Holmes, 34, who won two silver medals in last year's world championships in Paris, was Britain's greatest ever female middle distance runner.

Tomashova said after the race: "I feel disappointed about the result because I think that I could have done better. I relied on my sprint but it was only good for a second place."

Cioncan said: "I tried to stay behind Holmes for as long as possible. But I couldn't follow her pace."

"I feel nothing and very tired. But I am also very happy. This is amazing. It's a dream come true."

"My whole life has changed. I dedicate this medal to my father."
