Shanghai, a leading industrial and commercial city of China, exported about two million US dollars of daily cosmetics in the first seven months of this year,with a daily export of 15.86 tons during the Jan.-July period, a year on year rise of 23.2 percent, the latest statistics have shown.
The total cosmetics export for the January-July period reached approximately 3,380 tons, up 23.2 percent from the same 2003 period. The value of exported cosmetics amounted to 33.52.5 million US dollars, an increase of 10 percent, according to the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine.
Shanghai's export cosmetic products comprise mainly, among others, face cream, body lotion, perfume and products for hairdressing. The export markets include the United States, Canada,Russia, Japan, Romania, the Middle East, Southeast Asia nations and China's Hong Kong and other countries and regions.
With the increasing presence of foreign cosmetics manufacturersin China, foreign name brand cosmetics products have accounted forabout 90 percent of Shanghai's total export.
Thanks to rigid inspection and quarantine measures, Shanghai port reported no cases involving poor-quality cosmetics in the first seven month period, noted the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine.
