Edmund Ho Hau Wah's victory in the election for the second-term chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) is warmly embraced by celebrities in Macao.

Ma Man Kei, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference said Sunday that Ho's great victory in the election for a second term is the best evidence of Macao people's staunch support for the leader.

Edmund Ho Hau Wah won the election with a supporting rate of nearly 99 percent from the 300 Election Committee on Sunday.

Ma said that during the past five years, Ho made great efforts in realizing Macao's social stability and security, economic development, and the improvement of people's livelihood.

This was the first important election held since Macao's return to the motherland, and it was conducted in an open, fair and transparent way, said Ma, adding that the election served as another proof of the vitality of "Macao people governing Macao."

Chairwoman of Macao's Legislative Council Susana Chou noted that the election result served as an affirmation of the good performance of the Macao SAR government in the first five years.

She said the Macao SAR would face more arduous tasks of social and economic development in the next five years. But she expressed the belief that the future SAR government under the leadership of Ho would lead Macao into a brighter future.

Speaking high of Ho's endeavors in implementing the "one country, two systems" policy in Macao, Bai Zhijian, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Macao said that Ho's re-election exhibited the public's acknowledgment of his previous work and a true expectation for the second-term SAR government to stick to the policy orientation.
