As learnt from the Beijing Subway the renovation project of Beijing subway line one and line two, which has a total investment of 3.7 billion yuan, has started and is expected to complete by 2007. The renovation is focused on the whole equipment system including the train body and tracks.

The schedule of the project has been set. According to demonstrations already available once the project is completed the existing hidden safety problems and dangerous factors of the Beijing subway line one and line two would be eliminated, and the overall technological level and safety of the train equipment system would be raised; the train and equipment failure rate would be reduced dramatically compared with that before the renovation; the passenger transportation need in 2008 would be met; the environments of the subway stops and compartments would be improved so that passengers would feel more comfortable and more satisfied; human cost would be reduced and the number of personnel per kilometer would be kept within 100; technological management level would be raised through equipment renovation and the "unmanned" management of equipment would be gradually realized.

The expert demonstration meeting of the Train and Equipment Hidden Danger Elimination and Renovation Project of Beijing Subway Line 1 and Line 2 and the Beijing Subway Line 1 and Line 2 AFC Project Solution closed ten days ago and the demonstration solutions are still under further demonstration.
