font size

The Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Tung Chee Hwa has written to incumbent Chief Executive of Macao SAR Edmund Ho Hau Wah congratulating him on his re-election, a government press release said on Monday

"Since its reunification with the motherland in 1999, the Macao SAR has successfully implemented 'One Country, Two Systems' and ' Macao people running Macao' with the staunch support of our country and under Ho's capable leadership," Tung said.

In his letter, Tung said he strongly believed that Macao would continue to build on its solid foundation to thrive and contribute to the prosperity and growth of the country.

Under the election law, the result of the ballot still needs to be reviewed by a special panel under the Electoral Affairs Committee and the Court of Final Appeal in the Macao SAR.

Ho will need the appointment by the central government to become the second chief executive of the Macao SAR, according to the Basic Law. Ho's First five-year term will expire on Dec. 19.
