China's number of trademark application tops the world

China has been world No.1 for two consecutive years in terms of number of trademark application, sources from the State Industry and Commerce Administration say.

In 2003, the number of application reaches 452, 000. In the first half of 2004 the number is 268, 000. By the end of June 2004, the total number of registered trademark has reached 2.134 million in China.

Right of trademark is an important part of intellectual property. In recent years, the State Industry and Commerce Administration has been carefully carrying out activities to protect rights of registered trademarks. Special activities have been carried out in the fields that are related to people's safety, i.e. food, drug, medical equipment, building material, agricultural supply and automobile part.
