Agricultural mechanization reaches developed level in NE China
font size

The agricultural mechanization of the Reclamation Area in China's northernmost Heilongjiang province has reached the level of developed nations after three generations of painstaking efforts, according to sources with the Reclamation Area Administration on Tuesday.

The area is now equipped with 24,000 medium- and large-sized tractors, 8,115 combine harvesters, 6,700 sprinklers and 30 agricultural planes. The mechanization rate is about 90 percent.

In 2002, the area imported precise agricultural technologies and equipment from the United States, including large tractors installed with satellite positioning systems and satellite navigation systems.

The area also introduced 226 large intelligent tractors the from the United States in 2004.

The vast wasteland in Heilongjiang was reclaimed soon after the founding of new China in 1949. The reclamation area, the largest state-owned farm in the country, now has 2.06 million hectares of cropland and can produce 9 billion kg of grain annually.
