First session of Iraqi interim parliament opens

Chalabi escaped from the assassination attempt, which left two of his bodyguards wounded, near Baghdad on Wednesday. The 100-member Iraqi interim parliament opened its first session on Wednesday. Its main task was to advise the interim government and to prepare for the elections due next January.
