Two youths in Dhaka have been placed under a five-day police remand for interrogation over threatening to kill Prime Minister Khaleda Zia within seven days, The Observer reported Thursday.
In an e-mail, sent to the Police Headquarters and a local newspaper, Dipu and Sohel impersonated themselves as activists of the main opposition the Awami League and also demanded 300 milliontaka ( 500,000 US dollars) within three days.
Otherwise, they threatened to blow up the Prime Minister Office,the President House as well the parliament building.
They also threatened to kill all parliament members of the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party and the Prime Minister's son Tareque Rahman.
A grenade attack on a rally organized by Awami League in the capital on Aug. 21 killed 20 people, injured around 300 others. Awami League chief and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina narrowly escaped the attack.
Meanwhile, another Interpol team arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday noon for probing the incident.
Earlier, a two-member advanced team of Interpol comprising Federal Official of Australia Geoffrey Isles and American civil terrorist expert Jacqueline Polansk arrived here last Sunday.
The Interpol investigators are still in the dark as they failedto establish the motive behind the grenade blasts.
Nobody has been arrested in connection with the incident so far.
