    Third Asian political parties' conference starts

    Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and honorary director of the organizing committee of the conference, addresses the opening ceremony of the third International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) in Beijing, Sept. 3, 2004.     Giant panda Hua Mei delivers twins

    Giant panda "Hua Mei" licks her newly-born baby at the Wolong Giant Panda Protection and Research Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province Sept. 1, 2004. "Hua Mei" gave birth to twins Wednesday night, which weighed 157 grams and 130 grams respectively. "Hua Mei" was born in the San Diego Zoo in the United States in 1999 and was returned to China last February. It is the first giant panda which was born abroad and later returned to China.

    Senior CPC official visits exhibition on Xinhua's foreign-oriented publicity

    Liu Yunshan (C), member of Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and a member of its Secretariat, is viewing Xinhua News Agency's exhibition on its foreign-oriented publicity in English on Sept. 2. A symposium marking 60th anniversary of Xinhua's foreign-oriented publicity is held on that day. Xinhua's foreign-oriented publicity began on Sept. 1, 1944. At present 4, 200 users overseas are using Xinhua's news.

    Tibet, a new attraction to travelers

    The photo taken on Aug. 28 shows a foreign tourist taking photos outside the Luobulinka Park in Lhasa, Captial of the Tibet Autonomous Region. In recent years, Tibet has seen rapid increase of tourists from both home and abroad. By the end of Sept 2004, Tibet has received about 30, 000 tourists this year.

    Malaysian court sets Anwar free

    Former Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was freed Thursday after nearly six years in jail as the Malaysia Federal Court upheld his appeal against conviction for sodomy. Anwar's release from prison comes exactly six years after he was sacked from the cabinet.(Xinhua Photo)
