Five people got killed while two others were injured in a landslide taking place in the wee hours of Thursday in the county of Shenmu in Yulin city, northwest China's Shaanxi province.

A local source said the tragedy happened around 2 a.m. within the reach of a coal mine of Shenmu township. Four houses were buried in the landslide, with seven locals killed.

Villagers in surrounding areas and miners pitched in the rescue operation right after the accident. Two villagers were found wounded while five bodies were recovered in a five-hour rummage.

The investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
