Central African Republic dismisses govt
font size

Central African Republic President Francois Bozize issued a decree dismissing the government on Thursday, according to a local media report.

The report said Prime Minister Celestin-Leroy Gaombalet and his government was disbanded by Bozize, who came to power in a coup in March 2003.

Gaombalet was appointed in December 2003 to replace the first prime minister Abel Goubma appointed by Bozize in March last year.

There was no further details about who would be appointed as the country's new prime minister.

A former army chief, Bozize was sacked by former president Ange-Felix Patasse in October 2001, but he managed to control capital Bangui on March 16, 2003 after his henchmen seized the city's airport and presidential palace while the president was abroad.

Bozize suspended the constitution after seizing power.

Presidential and legislative elections are scheduled for next January and February in the country.
