Republican National Convention ends amid strong support for BushThe Republican National Convention ended here Thursday night, with US President George W. Bush promising to build a "safer world and more hopeful America" for the US people. In his acceptance speech delivered at the convention, which opened on Monday, Bush announced his acceptance of the Republican presidential nomination to run for a second term in the office. "I am honored by your support, and I accept your nomination for President of the United States," Bush told the crowd at the last day of the four-day convention. He said the coming "presidential election is a contest for the future." He outlined his agenda in the second term for creating more jobs, social security, taxes and health care. In a platform passed on the first day of the convention, the Republicans said that their Party addresses the major issues facing the United States in the first decade of the 21 century, such as winning the war on terror, building an innovative economic to compete in the world. The platform, focused mainly on the war on terror and the national security, heaped lots of praises on Bush for his endeavors in fighting against terrorism and war on Iraq, so did the delegate speakers who threw their support behind the incumbent president. The platform called on the US voters to make a right choice between Bush and his rival, Democratic candidate John Kerry. Vice President Dick Cheney accepted the nomination of vice presidential candidate on Wednesday night. The Democratic held its national convention in late July and nominated Senators John Kerry and John Edwards as the Democratic ticket.
